The End of The Rock the Block 2025 Season

As temperatures drop and nights grow shorter, Wednesday’s final Rock the Block Concert was a heartfelt farewell to summer.

We thank everyone who joined us on Wednesday night. It was wonderful to see all the pups, families, and couples enjoying the evening.

The event kicked off with hit classics from Sly and the Family Stone, performed by Everyday People, which energized the crowd. Next up was Ada Dyer, who captivated us all with her powerhouse vocals.

Children ran around with painted faces, clutching cotton candy, balloon flowers, crowns and swords. Meanwhile, the dogs wore smiles as they enjoyed their pup cups. Outdoor dining tables were filled with laughter and conversation, while kids and adults alike enjoyed the mini-golf and the golf simulator. Meanwhile, our local vendors showcased their businesses and connected with the community.

We are thrilled to have completed another successful season of Rock the Block, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s series will bring!

Special thanks to our participating restaurants for offering incredible al fresco dining: Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

Thanks to our presenting sponsor White Plains Hospital, and our additional supporters, Argent Ventures, Westchester County, Bruni & Campisi, SRG2 Partners LLC., Cappelli Organization, Saw Mill Stone & Masonry Supplies, LANline Communications and Partyline, and our community partner New York Power Authority (NYPA). Their collective support plays a crucial role in making this event a reality and enhancing the local cultural landscape.

We are also grateful to our mini-golf sponsors for the second half of the Rock the Block season, including Club Champion, Apple Cinemas, Purple Owl, Minuteman Press, Evie’s Cleaners, RXR, Peroni Building Company, Leafology, and Game On Golf Center.

Want more music in Downtown White Plains? We have another music festival right around the corner: Jazz Fest White Plains, with the culminating JazzFest Al Fresco event occurring on the same street as Rock the Block! That means more outdoor dining and free live music to come! See the next article for more!

Our Third Rock the Block Was a Hit!

The third Rock the Block concert of the season brought energy and sunshine to Downtown White Plains on Wednesday, July 16th!

The evening kicked off with Long Island’s The Big Happy. Their upbeat fusion of jam, hip-hop, and rock set a festive tone that perfectly prepared everyone for the night ahead.

By popular demand, line dancing made a lively comeback with instructor Adam leading the way. Dozens of participants joined in, creating a fun and welcoming spirit that also attracted the attention of those watching from the sidewalks. If you love dancing, check out our local dance studio, Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio, right around the corner.

Following this energetic dance session, The Wildmans took the stage. Their signature Appalachian sound, featuring captivating fiddle solos and heartfelt vocals, filled the avenue beautifully. They performed songs from their newly released album, Longtime Friend, further enchanting the audience.

In addition to the great music, the back of the block was buzzing with activity. Picnic tables were filled, and laughter echoed from the activation area, creating a festive atmosphere. Kids and families engaged in arts and crafts, played badminton, and challenged each other at Jumbo Jenga and Connect Four. Both children and adults delighted in the mini-golf and golf simulator stations, adding an extra layer of fun to the evening.

Miss the fun? You still have one more chance to party with us! Our final Rock the Block concert will be on Wednesday, August 20th on Mamaroneck Avenue (Between Maple Avenue and E. Post Road) from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This last concert will feature Ada Dyer and the Everyday People Tribute Band.

Special thanks to our participating restaurants for offering incredible al fresco dining all night long: Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

The Pamplemousse Project Awards Grants to Three Local Non-Profit Organizations

The Pamplemousse Project is a café in the heart of Downtown White Plains serving ethically sourced coffee, hand crafted drinks, and fresh baked goods. What sets them apart is their mission of giving back to the community by donating 100% of profits to local nonprofits.

Since opening in December 2022, they have awarded grants to over 15 organizations across Westchester. We recently attended their latest grant ceremony, where $3,500 was awarded to each to Cancer Support Team, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry.

Local leaders came out to show their support, including White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, Council President Vicki Presser, Council Members John Martin and Jeremiah Frei Pierson, and New York State Senator Shelley Mayer.

Rock the Block Updates

Our second Rock the Block concert took place last Wednesday, and it was a memorable evening celebrating both local and emerging talent! We were thrilled to welcome 10-year-old rock and blues guitarist Bay Melnick Virgolino from The Only Bay Allstars, who opened the night with an impressive set.

Bay was recently featured on ABC News Live, where he discussed his journey as a young guitarist, his guitar, and his creative songwriting process. You can watch the interview here. He also appeared on America’s Got Talent on Tuesday, July 1st! We’re excited to see what’s next for this talented young boy.

The evening was capped off by The Big Takeover, a reggae, ska, and soul band from the Hudson Valley, who brought smooth grooves and feel-good energy to the audience.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! We have two more Rock the Block concerts coming up this summer! Join us on July 16 and August 20, both on the third Wednesday of the month. In just two weeks, the July concert will feature The Wildmans, a sibling duo consisting of Elsha and Aila Wildman, who are rooted in Appalachian mountain music. They have performed on stages big and small, from East Coast festivals to Colorado. We will also have The Big Happy, a band from Long Island that plays high-energy music, blending Jam, Hip Hop, and Rock and Roll.

As always, al fresco dining, mini-golf, arts and crafts, and other free yard games will be available to the public.

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay informed about this event and other happenings in real-time in Downtown White Plains!

Special thanks to our participating restaurants for offering incredible al fresco dining all night long: Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

A Night to Remember at Rock the Block

We kicked off summer with a bang on Wednesday night! Downtown White Plains came alive as we kicked off our Rock the Block summer concert series. The streets were packed, the restaurants were buzzing, and the music had people of all ages dancing in the open air. From al fresco dining to mini golf and family fun, the night had something for everyone!

With unforgettable performances by Tito Puente Jr. and Mansa G. Code, the energy was electric. Smiles, rhythm, and laughter filled Mamaroneck Avenue, reminding us that music truly brings people together across generations, languages, and backgrounds.

This wasn’t just a concert. It was a celebration of community. Thank you White Plains for showing up and showing out!

Check out the event recap video here.

Couldn’t make it? You’ve got another chance! Our rescheduled May concert is happening this upcoming Wednesday, June 25, featuring The Big Takeover and The Only Bay Allstars. You won’t want to miss it!

  • Revitalize the Mamaroneck Pedestrian Pathway ($132,000): Revitalize the pedestrian pathway from Mamaroneck Avenue to the municipal garage to create a safer, more enjoyable pedestrian experience.

Once the City is ready to implement this fund, we will be sure to keep everyone apprised of their application schedule.

May Rock The Block Rescheduled to June

Rock the Block is back with two exciting concerts to kick off the summer! The first concert will be held on June 18th, followed by the second on June 25th. Both events are set for Wednesdays and will run from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, continuing the high-energy fun that our community loves!

On June 18th, Tito Puente Jr. will headline the concert, with Mansa G. Code opening. Then, on June 25th, The Big Takeover will take the stage for the rescheduled event! See the full entertainment lineup here.

To make room for the festivities, Mamaroneck Avenue will be closed between Maple Avenue and E. Post Road, creating a spacious, car-free area. This will feature outdoor dining and plenty of activities, including mini-golf, cornhole, crafts for kids, seesaws, and, of course, free live music! One of the highlights will be a 9-hole mini-golf event sponsored by various local businesses, which you can learn more about during the event. If you plan to enjoy the live performances from the seating area, we recommend bringing your own chair!

Participating restaurants on the block include Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

New in Downtown: Coffee Social

We are excited to welcome Coffee Social to downtown White Plains!

Located at 193 East Post Road, this women-owned business, which opened its doors on June 2, is sure to become a new local favorite!

Founded by Erin and Pam, third-generation White Plains residents, Coffee Social brings the same community-focused spirit that made their first venture, Ice Cream Social, a hit with White Plains and Westchester residents. This time, they’ve created a warm and welcoming space where the community can gather over lattes, cappuccinos, and teas. Continuing their collaboration with Tarrytown’s Coffee Labs Roasters, Coffee Social offers a full menu of coffee drinks made with premium, small-batch roasts.

Coffee Social continues its commitment to supporting local makers by partnering with a variety of Westchester-based businesses. Restaurant Spotlight: Ambadi Kebab & Grill

We recently featured Ambadi Kebab & Grill, an Indian restaurant located at 141 East Post Road, on our social media channels! This restaurant has been a staple in downtown for over 15 years.

As you may know, our downtown area is home to a variety of international cuisines, and Indian is just one of the many options available!

During our visit, we tried several dishes, including butter chicken, chicken tandoori, saag paneer, basmati rice, and garlic naan. We also highly recommend the mango lassi! We encourage everyone to visit this wonderful restaurant.

You can watch the video we made featuring their flavorful dishes HERE!

May Rock The Block Rescheduled to June

As you may know, our first Rock the Block Concert originally scheduled for May 21st has been rescheduled to June 25th due to weather concerns.

While we understand the disappointment this change may cause, there’s a silver lining: we will now have two Rock the Block concerts in June! One will take place on June 18th and the other on June 25th, both on Wednesdays. Both events will run from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM and will continue to feature the high-energy fun that the community has come to love!

The first June concert on June 18th will feature Tito Puente Jr. as the headliner, with Mansa G. Code opening for him. Then, on June 25th, The Big Takeover will headline the rescheduled event!

The street closure on Mamaroneck Avenue between Maple Avenue to E. Post Road, will create a spacious, car-free area featuring outdoor dining and plenty of activities such as mini-golf, corn hole, crafts for kids, seesaws, and best of all, free live music! Featured activities include a 9-hole mini-golf event sponsored by various local businesses, which you can learn more about during the event.

See the full entertainment lineup here.

We hope to see you all there! Invite your friends, bring the kids, and dance the night away to our summer tunes! If you plan to watch the live performance in the seating area, we suggest bringing your own chair!

Participating restaurants on the block include Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

Our signature summer concert series, Rock the Block, is set to return in 2 weeks on Wednesday May 21st!

The Downtown White Plains Business Improvement District, in collaboration with the City of White Plains and Doug Panero Presents, proudly hosts Rock the Block. This event will take place every third Wednesday of the month from May through August, running from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. White Plains Hospital is the presenting sponsor of Rock the Block.

The street closure on Mamaroneck Avenue from Maple Avenue to E.

This month’s lineup will feature headliners The Big Takeover and opening act The Only Bay Allstars. The Big Takeover, a seven-piece band from the Hudson Valley, is led by Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie. They perform original music that is inspired by Jamaican pop genres, including reggae, rocksteady, and ska. They pay homage to Desmond Dekker and blend various musical traditions as modern pop fusionists!

Our opening act, Bay Melnick Virgolino, is a NYC native and the lead rock and blues guitarist/vocalist for The Only Bay. He developed a passion for rock and blues at the young age of 2, started playing guitar at 4, and performed his first live show at 7. By age 8, he was already headlining festivals. Now, at just 10 years old, Bay will open our first Rock the Block concert in this year’s series!

Our upcoming headliners for June through August include, Tito Puente Jr., The Wildmans and Ada Dyer. Additionally, you can expect to see openers such as, Mansa G. Code, The Big Happy, and Everyday People.

We hope to see you all there! Invite your friends, bring the kids, and dance the night away to our summer tunes! If you plan to watch the live performance in the seating area, we suggest bringing your own chair!

Participating restaurants on the block include Brazen Fox, Cantina, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

Wing Walk Recap: A Flavorful Success!

The Downtown White Plains 2025 Wing Walk on Saturday, April 26th, was a success! Despite the rain, over 1,700 attendees showed up, umbrellas in hand and appetites ready. The streets buzzed with energy as guests strolled through downtown, sampling bold, saucy, and surprising wing creations from 16 incredible restaurants. Our beloved chicken mascot, Wingston Lemon-Pepper, didn’t let a little drizzle slow him down as he danced through the streets, posed for photos, and brought joy to everyone he met.

As attendees made their way through Downtown White Plains and rated restaurant wings, the final voting form submissions rolled in that evening, and the results were clear: Lilly’s was crowned the People’s Choice Champion for their standout Thai Chili Dry Rub wings. Our guest judges also weighed in and named Brazen Fox as the Judge’s Choice Champion for their bold and flavorful Stingin’ Honey Garlic Wings. Congratulations to both restaurants for their delicious and creative!

Many attendees created recap videos of the event! You can check out some of these recap videos here and here.

We are grateful to all 16 participating restaurants whose hard work made this event possible: Alex Lounge Bar & Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar, Delicias del Jireh, Freebird Kitchen & Bar, Hudson Grille, Lilly’s, Mario’s Pizza Restaurant, Ron Blacks Beer Hall, Shiraz Kitchen & Wine Bar, Sundance Kitchen & Cantina, Tepe’s Kitchen, The Brazen Fox, The Lazy Boy Saloon, TVB by Pax Romana, and Wolf & Warrior Brewing Co.

A heartfelt thank you to Stella Artois for sponsoring this year’s Wing Walk, and to the City of White Plains for their continued support.

In the Press: Red Horse by David Burke Introduces Hudson Valley To American Dim Sum

Red Horse by David Burke, a downtown White Plains restaurant, was recently featured in a news article by Jeff Edwards on Patch for the launch of their new “American dim sum” brunch.

This brunch will offer a unique twist, featuring 10 courses of snack-sized portions that blend American breakfast and lunch favorites with a Chinese influence. Guests can look forward to dishes such as General Tso’s crispy fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, and oatmeal crème brûlée served in eggshells. Additionally, a selection of breads will be presented in church baskets. The brunch is priced at $55, with a limited à la carte menu also available.

“American dim sum, at Red Horse by David Burke White Plains, will offer snack-sized portions of American lunch and breakfast favorites, some with a Chinese accent, presented on carts that constantly roam the dining room. It will incorporate straight-from-the-kitchen waiter service for hot items, as well as the offering of popovers, donuts, cornbread and muffins in long-handled church baskets.”, wrote Jeff Edwards.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (April 28, 2025) — Two restaurants in Downtown White Plains have won the title for the best wings during the Downtown White Plains 2025 Wing Walk held on Saturday. The winners were determined by both the public and a panel of culinary judges. Lilly’s was awarded the “People’s Choice Champion” for their Thai Chili Dry Rub wings, while Brazen Fox won the “Judge’s Choice Champion” title for their Stingin’ Honey Garlic Wings. Both restaurants showcased unique flavors and culinary creativity that impressed attendees and judges alike.

The “People’s Choice Champion” was determined by event attendees who purchased tickets to the Wing Walk event, a culinary competition hosted by the Downtown White Plains Business Improvement District. Guests received a Wing Walk “passport” featuring a QR code that linked to an online ballot, allowing them to rate each wing as they visited 16 participating restaurants, most offering 2 flavors of wings. Lilly’s crisp wings, which had the perfect balance of spice and crunch, won the hearts of attendees, leading to Lilly’s Thai Chili Dry Rub wings being rated the highest and earning them the “People’s Choice Champion” for the best wings in Downtown White Plains for 2025.

The White Plains BID extends a heartfelt congratulations to Chef Tyler Jacobs and Brian Mahon, owner of Lilly’s, for their outstanding achievement. Chef Tyler expressed his joy at winning, stating, “The event brings people to White Plains. It’s good, clean fun among businesses. It gives me a chance to have fun with food and make people happy.” (Lilly’s previously won the “Judges Choice Champion” in 2024 for their Jerk Chicken Wings).

The panel of culinary judges selected Brazen Fox as their top choice for best wings for the “Judges Choice Champion” title, with their Stingin’ Honey Garlic Wings receiving the highest rating among all judge entries. The panel included culinary experts such as Chef Ron Gallo (Executive Chef at the Happy Monkey), Kathi Gallo (Director of Catering at HPH Hospitality Group in Manhattan), Phil McGrath (Chair of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management at SUNY Westchester), James Morabito from Dana Distributors, and food influencers Francis Volpe and Nicky Smalls from Snack Time TV, who together boast over 300,000 subscribers across their social media platforms.

Declan Rainsford, owner of Brazen Fox, remarked on the event’s positive impact, saying, “It’s a great event that people enjoy. It brings nice people to the area. Our staff is thrilled that we won and received this recognition.”

About the Wing Walk Event:

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the White Plains Wing Walk is a treasured community event. In addition to wing tasting at dozens of restaurants, the event brings live music and entertainment to the avenue, notably via visits from “Wingston Lemon Peppa” the event’s beloved mascot chicken.

“Wing Walk is a great way to give people a ‘taste’ of what our downtown — a hotbed of culinary creativity — has to offer”, said Jennifer Furioli, Executive Director of the White Plains BID. It’s a true community event that brings all ages out to support and discover our restaurants in a fun unique way.

Despite a forecast of rain showers, the event surpassed last year’s ticket sales, highlighting the community’s enthusiastic spirit and love for great food! Wing walkers donned raincoats and carried umbrellas as they strolled through Downtown White Plains, each equipped with a Wing Walk Passport. This useful guide not only featured a map of participating restaurants but also included space for restaurants to stamp their passports when guests visited their locations. Additionally, guests could scan a QR code to access an online voting ballot. Completing the form entitled them to a voucher for six free wings, with voting closing at 5:30 PM.

Visitors traveled from across the Tri-state area, with many coming from Westchester and neighboring counties in New Jersey and Connecticut. The farthest guests ventured from as far away as California, Georgia, Florida, Delaware, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Texas.

We extend our gratitude to the 16 restaurants that participated in this year’s event: Alex Lounge Bar & Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar, Delicias del Jireh, Freebird Kitchen & Bar, Hudson Grille, Lilly’s, Mario’s Pizza Restaurant, Ron Blacks Beer Hall, Shiraz Kitchen & Wine Bar, Sundance Kitchen & Cantina, Tepe’s Kitchen, The Brazen Fox, The Lazy Boy Saloon, TVB by Pax Romana, and Wolf & Warrior Brewing Co.

Additionally, we express our heartfelt appreciation to Stella Artois for their sponsorship of this year’s Wing Walk and to the City of White Plains for their invaluable support in this event.

Upcoming Event: Rock The Block Returns on May 21st

rock the block

May is just around the corner, and that means the first concert of our popular Rock the Block series is approaching quickly!

The concert series will occur every third Wednesday from May through August from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The street will be closed from Maple Avenue to E. Post Road, creating a spacious, car-free area featuring outdoor dining, games, activities, and, best of all, free live music!

May’s lineup will feature headliners The Big Takeover and opening act The Only Bay Allstars. The Big Takeover, a seven-piece band from New York, is led by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie. They perform original music that is inspired by and respectful of Jamaican pop genres, including reggae, rocksteady, and ska. They pay homage to Desmond Dekker and blend various musical traditions as modern pop fusionists.

Now, at just 10 years old, Bay will open our first Rock the Block concert in this year’s series.

Our upcoming headliners include, Tito Puente Jr., The Wildmans and Ada Dyer. Additionally, you can expect to see openers such as, The Big Happy, and Everyday People.

With plenty of activities such as mini-golf, cornhole, crafts for kids, seesaws, and other fun attractions, Downtown White Plains is the place to be this summer.

We hope to see you all there! So, invite your friends, bring the kids, and dance the night away to our summer tunes!

Participating restaurants on the block include Brazen Fox, Cantina, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

In the event of rain, alternative dates are scheduled for July 18th and August 28th.

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay informed about this event and other happenings in real-time in Downtown White Plains!

Rock the Block is co-produced alongside our partners, The City of White Plains and Doug Panero Presents.

Thanks to our presenting sponsor White Plains Hospital, Rock Star sponsor Argent Ventures, and our Guitar Heros: Westchester County, Bruni & Campisi, and SRG2 Partners LLC!

Annual Meeting of the Membership

Yesterday, we held our Annual Meeting of the Membership! This once-a-year gathering brings together downtown business and property owners, elected officials, White Plains and Westchester County government, real estate professionals and civic groups to review our nonprofit’s programming, activities, and accomplishments from 2024. We also held elections for our volunteer board leadership and presented our recently audited financial statements.

A big thank you to Justin Driscoll, President and CEO of the New York Power Authority (NYPA), Mayor Thomas Roach, and County Executive Ken Jenkins for delivering remarks to our audience!

We’re especially grateful to NYPA for hosting us in their Jaguar Room and to our very own Downtown White Plains BID business, Iron Tomato, for catering the event!

Our Year-End Annual Report, presented at the meeting, is now available online! You can check it out here.

NYPA Unveils New EV Chargers on Chester/Maple Lot

Our Executive Director, Jennifer Furioli was pleased to join New York Power Authority CEO Justin Driscoll, County Executive Ken Jenkins, Mayor Thomas Roach and several White Plains Common Council members at the ribbon cutting to celebrate the installation of six new EVolve NY fast chargers for electric vehicles.

These chargers, conveniently positioned at the municipal Chester-Maple parking garage, will be able to charge electric vehicles in approximately 20 minutes, nearly half the time it typically takes to charge an electric vehicle.

A boon to EV owners, these chargers are conveniently located just a block away from dozens of restaurants, coffee shops and stores, making a the stop even more convenient for motorists.

Now, White Plains residents, shoppers and employees who need to charge their vehicle, have more and faster options at their fingertips downtown, while travelers unfamiliar with White Plains have an extra incentive to discover all we have to offer in proximity to these chargers when they stop to top up their batteries.

Destination charging, that is—motorists visiting and discovering new locations specifically to charge their EV batteries—is becoming more of a common occurrence, and we look forward to welcoming these new customers into our downtown!

To learn more about the new EV chargers and NYPA’s plans to have 400 of the Evolve NY Fast chargers in operation by early next year, check out this Westfair Article here.
